We were contracted to build a large 2-storey garage in Kaleden, BC, which required the inclusion of a bathroom. Connecting to the existing septic field was not a practical option, so our team designed a solution by installing a miniature septic field to handle the garage as a standalone building, separate from the house. Large Trees and terraced landscaping.
Although this was a miniature septic field, the project presented numerous challenges! The property was already beautifully finished when we were brought in to complete the work. Access to the site required navigating a steep main road, followed by a sharp turn into a narrow gate, and a tight curve along a freshly paved, narrow driveway. The install location itself offered limited space for the septic field, with a large tree directly adjacent to it.
We encountered tree roots that needed to be carefully managed to ensure the longevity of the septic system. To prevent tree roots from infiltrating the septic lateral line, we attached copper wire to the septic pipe near the holes. Since trees dislike copper, this innovative solution helped protect the system and extend its lifespan.
Given the small size of the septic system, we faced additional logistical challenges, including backing our dump trailer as far up the narrow driveway as possible. We carefully transferred materials from the trailer into the bucket of our skid steer to avoid damaging the freshly paved asphalt.
Despite these obstacles, we embraced the challenge, worked closely with fantastic clients, and successfully completed the project. The outcome was another septic installation done right, with the customer fully satisfied!
